Owner, Spoonfed & Bar Joe
A native of Chicago, Sean Loeffel grew up in a big family. As the ninth of ten children, everyone took care of each other and cooking was always a family affair, involving all the children and gathering around a dinner table. It was passionate, messy, and filled with creativity.
After graduating from Southern Illinois University, Sean began in the hospitality industry early, first as a waiter at the Ritz Carlton and subsequently working his way up the ranks at the Four Seasons for seventeen years, where he honed his knowledge of cuisine and service as the Food and Beverage Director, working with top chefs in Chicago, Seattle, Hawaii and Los Angeles. The experience of working with Founder & Creator of Four Seasons, Isadore Sharp, impressed upon Sean the importance and necessity of creating the ultimate experience for guests, and inspired him to continue to learn, grow, and be of service to the guests, staff, and community.
“If you don’t have service in your heart, love in your food & drink, responsible leaders, and an empowered & compassionate staff, you may have some success,” muses Loeffel, “but you will never achieve greatness.”
A natural leader, Sean has opened and developed a number of businesses as Chief Operating Officer, but it is in Spoonfed where he has been able to marry all his skills and expertise in the restaurant industry with a place reminiscent of his childhood around the dinner table. A place where Sean would say, “Food is Love.” Spoonfed is an open door into this home, extending his love and broadening his family to all who want to share in the experience of gathering together to feast on delicious food.
Sean lives in Los Angeles, where he spends his spare time enjoying the beautiful beaches, traveling, and spending as much time as possible with family & friends.
Bar Director, Spoonfed & Bar Joe
Bar Director John Neumueller oversees the beverage program at Bar Joe, located inside Spoonfed in the Hollywood Media District. Recognizing the daytime focus of Bar Joe within Spoonfed, Neumueller created a menu offering a tightly curated wine and beer list, whimsical plays on daytime drinks, and a plethora of non-alcoholic options. It was important to him to create a cohesive beverage program that incorporated sodas & tonics, coffee & tea, beer & wine, as well as cocktails & non-alcoholic mixed drinks.
Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Neumueller began bartending in college as way to earn extra money while he pursued degrees in Fine Art & Philosophy, but soon realized that he enjoyed the never-ending learning experience offered behind the bar. Moving to Los Angeles, Neumueller was part of a dream team at The Tasting Kitchen in Venice, CA and went on to work at Scopa/Old Lightning, Verlaine, and The Normandie Club & The Walker Inn.
Inspired by his father, a self-made man who started his own company, Neumueller inherited that strong work ethic, and developed his own ethos that he brings to every bar: Be Kind; Be Open; Be Happy; Be Present. “A drink itself is such a small portion of why people come in: it's a lure, a small brushstroke on a much larger work of art. The experience built around that drink makes up the rest,” reminds Neumueller. “Understanding, curating, and making the best of all that 'rest' is what counts.”
When he’s not bartending, you may find John enjoying the outdoors with his dog and cat or continuing his interest in art through small paintings and drawings.
